Recommendations on Deploying MS Vista at UC Berkeley

Currently the UC Berkeley MS Vista Project Team recommends waiting to roll out MS Windows Vista until at least the Fall '07 semester or later. The product is so new and presents such a significant change for both systems administrators and end-users that we recommend allowing time for bugs (and patches) to emerge and for administrators to develop comprehensive implementation and training plans.

Doing a pilot implementation prior to a full-scale implementation is recommended, as is starting with a very small group of pilot users. Please visit the UC Berkeley CalShare Windows Vista Site for lots of good information on the pilot Vista implementations already going on at UC Berkeley.

Moving to the Vista OS will likely require significant hardware upgrades. If you are considering purchasing a new computer or upgrading to Vista, we recommend that you purchase or upgrade to a computer that is Vista Premium ready.
