Campus Online Activities Policy: The Berkeley Community: CalNet ID

CRITERIA FOR INCLUSION IN THE CALNET SYSTEM

Version 1.1 - June 12, 2003

A CalNet ID is the electronic identity that allows eligible individuals to access and use online services offered by UC Berkeley. Registered students or faculty and staff on UC Berkeley payroll are automatically included in the CalNet System (https://calnet.berkeley.edu/). Individuals who are not automatically included may obtain a Calnet ID through their hosting department.

The following criteria determine eligibility for granting access to CalNet. Since a CalNet ID grants individuals access to services or online applications intended only for the Berkeley Community, departments must exercise diligence to ensure compliance with these criteria.

Criteria for granting CalNet access

Individuals affiliated with the University but who are not automatically included in student or payroll databases (including those in program, contract, or license relationships with the campus) are eligible to use campus electronic communications resources or service. These include individuals on payroll of the following organizations:

ASUC
California Alumni Association
Faculty Club
Howard Hughes Medical Institute
International House

Staff of related University of California organizations such as the Office of the President or UC-administered national laboratories may be granted CalNet IDs where there is an established administrative relationship with a UC Berkeley department or Control Unit. Authorization must be granted by the head of the related UC Berkeley unit.

Additionally, the following individuals may obtain CalNet IDs during their affiliation with the Berkeley campus.

Independent contractors or consultants who require access to CalNet enabled services may be granted CalNet IDs upon determination of the business need and approval of the hosting department's authorized administrative official.

Vendors may be granted CalNet IDs if they must access CalNet-enabled processes. Authorization must be granted by the host department Control Unit head.

Volunteers may be granted CalNet IDs if they must access CalNet-enabled processes. Authorization must be granted by the host department Control Unit head.

Visitors are not eligible for Calnet IDs.

CalNet access will automatically terminate after affiliation with UC Berkeley has ended.
