Supplement to the Campus Online Activities Policy

Requests for Exceptional Registration
in "Berkeley.EDU"
NOTE (08/27/2007): This procedure is being revised. For current information contact: itpolicy@berkeley.edu.

The following points shall be considered in requests to the Chancellor or designated authority for registration of programs offered by campus entities to non-affiliated individuals or organizations:

  • description of the extended community, with statement indicating how the campus is served by their inclusion in the e-Berkeley community;
  • type of registration requested for use of the .berkeley.edu domain, such as .alumni.Berkeley.edu;
  • description of electronic community activities, such as e-mail forwarding, indicating that the sponsoring entity assumes accountability for activities of such use
  • the sponsoring entity is responsible for administering sponsored use of campus resources or services, including procedures for initiation and termination of user authorizations and the education and enforcement of appropriate use regulations. See "Guidelines for Administering Appropriate Use of Campus Computing and Network Services" (http://technology.berkeley.edu/policy/approp.use.html);
  • fiscal arrangements to recover noticeable incremental costs for the DNS service (e.g., increased network traffic, adequate equipment and administrative staff coverage.)
