Guidelines for Departments or Units Responding
to Campus-Supported Web Site Issues

Misuse of campus resources for Web support may be reported to many different entities. The responsible department or unit usually will review allegations about their site. Department or unit heads may wish to take the following measures to prepare for responding to Web issues:

Actions taken locally by departments or units may simply consist of informal discussions with the user regarding appropriate use. Such efforts may resolve a conflict by clarifying misunderstandings or by educating the user, hopefully in a manner which minimizes conflict. However, if misuse is serious or is repeated after informal efforts, more serious measures may need to be considered. These might include temporary or permanent restrictions of service, or other penalties in accordance with governing policy, regulations, or law. In such situations, it is probably appropriate to involve other authorities, such as:
