Before using campus services, you may want to check with your own department to see what services (e.g. computer facilities, support) they provide. See the Services section of this site for further information on campus units providing general IT services.

Email, Internet Access, Telecommunications & Computing Services

All UC Berkeley students must have a berkeley.edu email address and a CalNet ID for accessing online services.

Computer ownership is highly recommended (though not yet required) for students. It is recommended you check first to see if your department requires Macs or PCs. Computers and software may be purchased at educational discounts from the campus computer store (The Scholar's Workstation at the Cal Student Store). Campus security software to help your computer meet the mandatory campus minimum security standards is available from the Software Central site (CalNet ID required).
