Student IT Resources
Before using campus services, you may want to check with your own department to see what services (e.g. computer facilities, support)
they provide. See the Services section of this site for further information on campus
units providing general IT services.
- Student Technology Council (STC) — chartered in 2009 by then Associate Vice Chancellor for Information
Technology (AVC-IT) and Chief Information Officer (CIO) Shel Waggener as the student technology governance structure.
The STC identifies and prioritizes students' information technology needs and opportunities, in support of UC Berkeley's mission. For more information and to get involved, go to the STC website.
- Educational Technology Services (ETS)
— the central campus resource providing course web sites, classroom technology support
and installation, webcasting, multimedia production, teleconferencing, video and audio,
and technology support for University events, as well as consulting and training on how
to use these and other tools.

— download audio recordings of courses (including computer science and information science) and events

— collaborative workspaces, course websites, tools to support instruction and research

All UC Berkeley students must have a berkeley.edu email address
and a CalNet ID for accessing online services.
Computer ownership is highly recommended (though not yet required) for students.
It is recommended you check first to see if your department
requires Macs or PCs.
Computers and software may be purchased at educational discounts from
the campus computer store (The Scholar's Workstation at the Cal Student
Store). Campus security software to help your computer meet the
mandatory campus minimum security standards is available from the
Software Central site (CalNet ID required).
