We are pleased to announce that William Allison has been appointed Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the University of California at Berkeley, effective today, November 24, 2015.
Reporting to Deputy CIO Lyle Nevels with a dotted line to CIO Larry Conrad for campus wide initiatives, Bill is responsible for the leadership of Berkeley's IT architecture and consideration of emerging technologies in support of research, teaching and administration. Bill will facilitate the governance and oversight of IT architecture activities University-wide, guiding the development and implementation of a shared vision and architectural standards that support and enable the University’s strategic goals.
As CTO, Bill will play an important leadership role on the Information Technology Architecture and Infrastructure Committee (ITAIC) to provide oversight for the University's foundational technologies, ensuring that Berkeley's major technology investments meet the long term needs of our community. Areas of initial focus include the development of the University’s cloud strategy, the evolution of our IT architecture and standards, and acting as champion of technology change at the Berkeley campus along with broad partnership across the UC-system.
In addition to his CTO responsibilities, Bill will continue to manage an infrastructure portfolio that includes leading the teams responsible for the University’s content and collaboration, web publishing, endpoint management, business process automation, web accessibility, and enterprise integration services.
Bill serves higher education nationally through participation in the Common Solutions Group and EDUCAUSE. He has been an Educause Center for Analysis and Research (ECAR) expert on mobile computing, a reviewer for the EDUCAUSE Review, the Chair of the Enterprise IT Leadership Conference, and served on the 2015 EDUCAUSE National Conference committee. He completed the Evanta CIO Institute program at the Haas School of Business, and received his B.A. from Yale University.
