Dear Campus Community:
As we kick off the fall semester, I am pleased to announce IT service enhancements intended to support increased communication and collaboration among UC Berkeley faculty, staff, and students:
- Additional Google Consumer Applications enabled for UC Berkeley Accounts; and
- Unlimited storage for Box accounts.
Enabling Google Consumer Applications
Many of you may have noticed that certain Google Apps like YouTube, Blogger, and Google+ have not been available within your UC Berkeley Google Account. This will change on August 26, when we will enable a large number of Google’s Consumer Apps for all campus Google accounts. Unlike the Core Google Apps already enabled (bMail, bCal, bDrive), these Consumer Apps are not covered under the same Terms of Service. Please take time to review some very important differences in how your data is protected in the Consumer Apps if you choose to use them.
Unlimited Box Storage
Box is now available with unlimited storage. If you are looking for a collaboration environment that is ideal for managing a large collection of files, for a large number of collaborators, Box may be a good solution for you.
bConnected Collaboration Services
While “bConnected” originally served as the Berkeley brand for Google services, today we’ve relaunched bConnected as a portfolio of collaboration services that include Google Apps for Education, Box, CalShare, and bCourses Project Sites. To reflect these changes, we have rebuilt the bConnected website with a focus on helping individuals to discover the services that best meet their collaboration needs.
These changes are part of ongoing efforts to improve services and expand support for the needs of our campus community. If you have any questions or feedback about these enhanced services, please contact the bConnected team.
