New UC-Wide Website Tool for Better Accessibility

May 3, 2018

Siteimprove logoTo our campus community,

In honor of the upcoming Global Accessibility Awareness Day on May 17, the Office of the CIO is pleased to announce the availability of a new system-wide tool to help make campus websites more accessible called Siteimprove. This tool was purchased by the Electronic Accessibility Committee at UC, and is meant to help each of us meet our obligation of having all of UC’s websites be as accessible as possible.

Siteimprove provides a robust web crawler that will check your UC Berkeley website for many things, including accessibility problems, quality assurance (such as broken links and spelling), and tools to help you improve your search engine optimization (SEO). Visit the Siteimprove page in the IT Service Catalog, which has training resources as well as information on how to enroll.

Please note that any automated tool will not capture all accessibility issues, and we recommend that you also consult the Web Access website for additional accessibility resources.

Regards,

Larry Conrad, Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Information Officer
Bill Allison, University Chief Technology Officer
