The room was packed at the third annual You’re IT! Staff Appreciation event held Thursday, Oct. 26 at the Alumni House. One IT staff from across campus came together once again for this event, co-sponsored by the ITLG and the Office of the CIO, to welcome new employees, celebrate collective accomplishments, and recognize the stellar contributions of our Excellence in Management, STAR, and COSA award recipients.
Walter Stokes (IST) got the crowd energized and limber with a rousing call and response warm-up activity leading us into a Human Bingo icebreaker that helped us learn more about our fellow colleagues. Congratulations to the first five bingo winners: Yoon Lee (CEE), Katie Dustin (IST), Anne Marie Richard (SAIT), Noelle Stimely (IST), and Adam Grimaldi (CSS IT). Bingo players were asked to quickly identify colleagues who matched different squares on their bingo card. Whether it was finding someone leading a Reimagining IT tactic, an employee who has worked for UC Berkeley more than 10 years, signed up for 2-Step verification, or who were born and raised in the Bay Area, filling five squares in a row, column, or diagonal won the prize! We might have to wait for a future One IT event to find out if anyone in our community does improv theater.
Next, Larry Conrad, Associate Vice Chancellor for IT and Chief Information Officer welcomed new employees (71 over the past year) to our One IT family. He then recognized the STARs in the group (240 total), as well as Excellence in Management recipients this year, Jeremy Rosenberg (IST) and Patrick Schmitz (Research IT). He congratulated the four individuals and one team awarded the prestigious Chancellor’s Outstanding Staff Award (COSA). Learn more about the fantastic accomplishments 2017 COSA recipients Sereeta Alexander (OPA), Adam Hillier (OUA), Doaa Hussein (OUA), Ricky To (Office of the Registrar), and the Cal Answers PI Portfolio Team achieved this year.
Larry went on to highlight key activities of implementing our Reimagining IT Strategic Plan, including engaging with senior campus leaders, launching the CalNet 2-step initiative, and building a new Research, Teaching, and Learning Organization. Reimagining IT continues to be part of how we tell our story to campus and ensure the critical work we do is aligned with campus goals. A big thank you to the entire One IT community for your participation. Read more about the Reimagining IT progress.
This annual event is not the only time to recognize the great work of those around us. Whenever you see One IT in action, a collaborative spirit, customer service that goes above and beyond, or simply work well done, please take a moment to nominate that person or team for Spot Awards or give kudos through our Pay it Forward program. Thank you for joining us!
