Colleagues,
I want to take the opportunity to thank you for joining us at the IT Summit on June 6. This year’s IT Summit focused on ReIT’s Goal 3, Diversity and Inclusion for One IT, and included an inspiring talk by Carol Christ, a provocative panel discussion, and sessions on Disability Awareness Training, Diversity and Inclusion, and IT Professional Development. Congratulations to the teams for their presentations on all these IT priorities! In case you missed it, or if you’d like to review, here are some additional summit resources:

Exhibit Hall & Poster Sessions Highlight ReIT Priorities There was a lot of buzz at this year’s Poster Session. The room was busy all afternoon as colleagues shared their successes, technology advances, data, and new ideas with one another. What a great way to meet one another and engage in conversation as we learned about the work we do in One IT. Several ReIT priorities and foundational tactics were detailed in posters, including Blackboard Ally; bSecure; Data Platform Services / Active Directory; How to give your customers the tools to succeed (Open Berkeley); Learning Analytics Advising Platform; QA and Test Automation for SIS, Secure Research Data and Compute; Student Computing @ Cal; and UCPath, to name a few. All told, we had over 20 posters, including a few demonstrations, and so much interest and excitement from our sponsors. Congratulations to all of the presenters! ReIT Ted Talks Three of the IT priorities in the ReIT Strategic Plan were presented at the ReIT Ted Talks held in the afternoon sessions at the summit. All three presentations focused on Goal 1, which is about student success: Digital Learning Initiative, by Suzanne Harrison; SIS Phase 2, by Rana Silver; and New Advising Tools by Oliver Heyer. In January 2019, sixteen IT priorities were identified by IT leaders as critical projects for the campus in FY19. A similar process will be used to identify the FY20 ReIT priorities for campus, and that work will commence in July. If you didn’t get a chance to hear theTed Talks, you can find the slide deck for all three of them at 2019 IT Summit Ted Talks. |

Action Needed: Change in Remote Access VPN Service The Information Security Office (previously Information Security & Policy) has launched the new and improved bSecure Remote Access VPN (Virtual Private Network) service, using the Palo Alto Networks GlobalProtect software. This service allows you to securely access the UC Berkeley network from outside of campus and encrypts the information sent through the network. This service replaces the Cisco AnyConnect VPN service. If you are currently using Cisco AnyConnect VPN, please install the bSecure Remote Access VPN before Sept. 30, 2019, when the Cisco VPN service will be retired. Learn more and download the new VPN service |
