"Soft" Curtailment over Thanksgiving & Winter Holidays

October 27, 2021

Dear Berkeley IT colleagues,

As we continue to look for ways to support you through these challenging times, in conversation with VCA as well as other campus units, the Berkeley IT (BIT) leadership team has decided to designate the first three days of the Thanksgiving week (Nov. 22-24), as well as the first week of 2022 (Jan. 3-7), as "soft" curtailment days. This means that, while not required, you are invited and encouraged (work permitting) to take this time off.

If you are interested in taking some or all of these soft curtailment days off, please talk to your supervisor or manager about it. For these days, staff may use vacation leave, accrued compensatory time off (CTO) or choose Leave Without Pay (LWOP). Anyone who does end up working during these days should not schedule meetings or create work (e.g., sending Slacks and emails) for others who may be taking the time off.
