Interim Deputy CIO Kelly Haberer to retire

February 13, 2008

A message from Shel Waggener, CIO

Kelly Haberer, Interim Deputy Chief Information Officer for Information Services and Technology, has announced her intention to retire effective June 27, 2008, following many years of outstanding service and contributions to the University and campus community.

After receiving her graduate degree from UC Berkeley in 1972, Kelly first joined the campus administrative staff, then moved to the technology organization as a software developer. Kelly is a gifted manager who has held many key leadership positions and played a critical role in the development and oversight of some of the campus's most complex and critical systems, including the Berkeley Financial System and our Human Resources Management System. Kelly's vision helped bring about the creation of the Departmental Technology Solutions (DTS) group, which provided assistance to departments looking to develop mission-critical applications. She is widely sought after for her breadth of experience and her expertise in system-wide applications.

In early 2007, Kelly accepted an interim appointment as Deputy CIO of the newly restructured Information Services and Technology division. That group refocused its mission to provide the campus with robust technical solutions under the "OneIST" moniker, with the goal of providing a high level of client services matched with scalable technology solutions.

I want to extend my sincere thanks to Kelly for her many contributions and the outstanding leadership example she has set for all of us. We will all miss her and wish her the best as she embarks on her next adventures, which include world-wide travel beginning this summer.
