Afternoon Session: Track Descriptions

This year, the One IT Committee is collaborating with the Reimagining IT Project Design Team to plan the afternoon program based on feedback we have received from past IT Summit participants, and to align with the goals of the Reimagining IT strategic planning initiative. Below you will find descriptions of the various tracks that will provide tools, ideas, and collaborative techniques to encourage you to lead from where you are. This information is subject to change as planning continues.

Track 1: Paving a Path for the Future: Teaching and Research, Cloud Strategy, and Workforce Development | Location: Haas School of Business, Andersen Auditorium 

This track provides sessions to learn more about three of the the six strategies in the Reimagining IT Strategic Plan. First, the Teaching, Learning, and Research working group will explore various tactics to provide faculty and students with the essential tools and data they need. Second, a panel of IT professionals from across campus will talk about their professional journey to the work they do now and the skills they think are needed as part of our developing Workforce Strategy. And third, members of the Cloud Strategy working group will discuss how the campus is responding to the wide range of cloud-based services available to us and what a UC Berkeley cloud strategy should address. view sessions

Track 2: Project Management: Fundamentals for Success |Location: Memorial Stadium, Innovation Lab

This series of sessions will highlight the foundational components of project management and the importance of how we can effectively manage IT projects at UC Berkeley. Sessions will illustrate the value of various project management methodologies to achieving cost effective and timely ways to deliver IT services and products to our campus partners. Participants will gain a working knowledge of project management terminology, best practices, roles and responsibilities of the project team, and learn about tools and resources available to the campus community to continue exploring project management further. view sessions

Track 3: Telling Our Story and Improving User Experience: How to Effectively Communicate and Deliver the Value of IT | Haas School of Business, Wells Fargo Room

This track will provide two sessions focused on Strategy 5 of the Reimagining IT Strategic Plan: Tell our story, make our services easier to discover and use, improve the user experience. Participants in the first session will have an opportunity to learn and practice a variety of techniques intended to improve the user experience for the services we offer. In the second session, David Riemer of the Haas School of Business will lead an interactive workshop that takes a narrative and storytelling approach to better communicating the value of IT. view sessions
