As a part of the Operational Excellence–sponsored Productivity Suite project, UC Berkeley has signed a campus license agreement to provide the most commonly used Microsoft software to all campus faculty, staff, and students. This is in addition to the license agreement to provide Adobe Creative Suite software to all campus faculty, staff, and students. The software covered by the agreements will be available at no cost to individuals or departments in 2011–2012. BREAKING NEWS! After several months of detailed evaluation as part of the OE Productivity Suite project, and following on the recent CalMail outage, on December 21, the campus signed a contract to provide our community with the full Google Apps for Education Suite. UC Berkeley's Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (AVC-IT/CIO) provides strategic oversight of campuswide information technology activities, sponsoring IT committees and working with IT service units across campus.

CIO. About the Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (AVC-IT/CIO), and the Office of the CIO (OCIO).
Planning/CTC. Campuswide IT planning and governance is the responsibility of the Campus Technology Council (CTC), chaired by the Chief Information Officer.
Architecture. Campuswide strategy, standards, guidelines, and best practices for IT architecture.
Research. UC Berkeley academic departments, interdisciplinary programs, and research centers that study technology and its applications.
Policy/Privacy. Campuswide policies governing use of technology and protection of sensitive information.
Security. Campuswide computer and network security resources for individuals and departments.
Services. Campuswide listing of units providing IT services and infrastructure. A campuswide IT services catalog (and registry) is under consideration and may eventually appear at this location.
