Dear Berkeley IT colleagues,

On June 21st, 2022, the bConnected on-premises SMTP service (bCOP) will be transitioning from contracted management to management by UC Berkeley. We do not anticipate any interruption of service, but want to make you aware of the change. The IP address will be changing, but the DNS will remain the same. Please make sure your customers are connecting to bCOP via DNS rather than IP address.

As a reminder, the use of bCOP must meet one of the following minimum requirements:

Eduroam offers the best and most secure access to the campus Wi-Fi network. You may be prompted to accept or trust the certificate in order to connect. If you are prompted, please accept the certificate to get connected to the wireless network.

We are pleased to announce the approval of the new campus-wide information security Roles and Responsibilities Policy. This policy outlines your responsibility in protecting the campus's data and systems. Everyone has a role — maybe even more than one — based on your relationship with the University. Responsibilities range from protecting one's own passphrase to managing security controls for a large system, an entire department, or even the campus.

Hello One IT Community,

If you plan to submit a session proposal for UC Tech 2022 at UC San Diego, now is the time! Session proposals are due this Sunday, May 8. Not only will session presenters get bragging rights, but they’ll also receive free admission to UC Tech 2022 for one member of their team! Only 17 session proposals have been submitted so far, and none are from UC Berkeley - yet!

Our world today is computing-intensive and power-hungry. At UC Berkeley, as more and more academic and research activity requires computing, aging power transmission and computing facilities are strained to the breaking point. This reality was the impetus for embarking on a multi-year project to rethink the outdated data center and cloud services model and create a roadmap that would be scalable and remain flexible into the future. Several milestones have been hit on the Data Center and Cloud Services Strategy Roadmap project.

Beginning Apr. 5 you will start to see changes in the CalNet 2-Step process for browsers (e.g., Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, etc.). The upgraded workflow provides a simplified and accessible Duo login experience and offers a redesigned visual interface with security and usability enhancements.
