Campus Directory Changes

Publication date

Dear Campus Community,

We're writing to let you know about an important change coming to the Campus Directory on June 8. This change is required by state and federal privacy laws to better protect your personal information.

What's Happening

The University of California has classified User Identification Numbers (aka UIDs) as private (Protection Level P2) information and has determined that they should not be publicly visible. To comply with these privacy protections, we're making the following changes:

  • UIDs will no longer appear in public search results or directory listings.
  • To view a person’s UID in the Campus Directory, you'll need to log in with your CalNet credentials (your Berkeley username and password) first.
  • Old directory links that have a UID in the URL won't automatically redirect. If you've bookmarked a directory page with a UID number in the URL, that link will not work after the change.
  • If you work in administration, you can still access ID information through other campus systems.

Thank you for your patience as we implement these privacy protections.
