New AI tools for students

Beginning Aug. 15, 2025, UC Berkeley students will gain access to the UC‑licensed Google Gemini App, alongside Zoom AI Companion. Both tools offer AI support features but require responsible use under course guidelines. Unauthorized generative AI use may be treated as academic misconduct.

Age-Based Action Restrictions on Google Workspace Accounts

Beginning Aug. 17, 2025, UC Berkeley will apply age-based restrictions to Google Workspace accounts to comply with Google’s policies. Non-degree students and employees under 18 will lose access to certain services, while core tools remain available. Degree-seeking students under 18 are not affected.

IT Change Freeze: Aug. 8-15 and Aug. 18-29

UC Berkeley will enforce IT change freezes Aug. 8–15 and Aug. 18–29, 2025, to protect key systems during exams and semester start. Services like CalCentral, Google Workspace, Zoom, and networking will be stabilized. Urgent changes need approval from the IT Change Advisory Board.

CalNet Login Screen Changes

Beginning Aug. 10, UC Berkeley login screens will display the new university logo. Community members are urged to stay alert for phishing scams and can compare old vs. new screens. Report suspicious emails to phishing@berkeley.edu or call 510‑664‑9000 (option 4).
