To help accommodate the growing demand for cloud computing resources from UC Berkeley faculty and other campus researchers, Berkeley Research Computing (BRC) has launched a Cloud Computing Support program, consisting of consulting services, documentation, and tools to help facilitate cloud computing access. BRC has provided informal consulting support for cloud-based research since summer 2014.

UCCSC 2015 at UC Riverside had a great turnout! I enjoyed speaking at the event and learning more about the IT projects and initiatives all of our campuses are working on. It’s such an exciting time for the IT community at UC, as we are becoming more and more collaborative.

Research IT has migrated CollectionSpace systems that manage five UC Berkeley museum collections to a consolidated set of centrally-managed hosts and servers. The successful migration was a six-month effort, completed in June 2015.

The campus’ Savio computing cluster received a major storage upgrade on June 12, 2015, when its Global Scratch file system was quadrupled in size, to a massive 885 terabytes (TB) of storage. The upgraded storage is also 250% faster, providing a peak bandwidth of over 20 GB per second, to better meet the demands of data intensive computations.

Agile Community of Practice is an organization intended to support and promote the use of Agile practices at Cal. During the Fall and Spring semesters, they hold bi-weekly brown bags that explore different applications of Agile concepts and practices.
