Celebrating Cybersecurity Awareness

October 2, 2024

Dear Campus Community,

Every October, we aim to increase cybersecurity awareness by offering guidance on safeguarding your data. Technology plays a key role in supporting the mission of teaching, research, and public service at Berkeley. Since each of us needs to be cyber-savvy to stay safe, we invite you to take the following actions to help protect your devices and data.

Complete Your Cybersecurity Training

Confirm you have taken the mandatory “UC Cyber Security Awareness Fundamentals” training course. It only takes 35 minutes! Use your CalNet ID to log into the UC Learning Center to confirm and/or complete the course.

Sign up For Free LastPass

LastPass is a password manager that securely stores your usernames and passwords in an encrypted vault, accessible across devices. It saves time by automating logins and provides tips for improving password hygiene. LastPass helps protect your digital identity and UC Berkeley data. Sign up for LastPass today.

Protect Your Duo 2-Step

Using the Duo Push function (clicking the green check mark) is the safest choice to protect your credentials. However, criminals may steal usernames and passwords and use their tricks to defeat Duo 2-Step. If any Duo request looks unusual, report it to the Information Security Office and follow best practices to keep your Duo activity safe.

Update Your Berkeley Information

Fight the Phish

Phishing is still the most common cause of security compromises, so it's important to stay vigilant. Avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from unexpected emails, and never fill out any unrequested forms asking for personal or financial information. If you're unsure, report it as a potential phishing attack.
