New Google storage limits effective July 5

May 16, 2023

To our campus community,

Beginning July 5, 2023 new storage limits will be applied to all UC Berkeley Google accounts; however, only 2% of accounts will be impacted by the new limits. This fall, we will be working closely with those customers who need to reduce their Google content to make the process as stress-free as possible. Here are the next steps in the process:

  • Accounts storing more than 150 GB will need to reduce their content below 150 GB by Jan. 23, 2024. If you need to reduce your Google content you were sent an email with more information and action steps.

  • If your account holds more than 35 GB of content, you will receive an extended 150 GB limit on July 5, 2023.

  • All other accounts holding less than 35 GB of content will have the final limit of 50 GB applied on July 5, 2023.

More Information & Help

  • Check your current storage limit and usage in your Google account settings.

  • This fall, we’ll begin offering workshops including collaborating in Box, clearing out email, demystifying Google Drive, content management strategies, and more. Let us know if you’re interested in attending!

You can find more details about the new limits and other planned changes on the project website, and if you still have questions or need help please contact us. Thank you for your attention to this matter and taking action, as needed.

Regards,

Jenn Stringer, Associate Vice Chancellor for IT and Chief Information Officer
Wes Johnson, Executive Director of Campus IT Experience
