To our campus community,
Last month we sent a campus-wide message to inform you of a necessary shutdown of our Data Center scheduled for Friday, May 31, 2024. After further consideration of potential impacts on campus operations, this planned shutdown will be moved to a new date to be determined in consultation with campus stakeholders. This work is required to support the campus research mission and to provide improved resilience for the Data Center to run on generator power during campus outages.
The Data Center houses many of our mission-critical servers on campus so powering things off will impact access to many systems. We are collaborating with several departments to select a date for the shutdown to purposefully schedule the outage during a window of time when the use of systems is reduced to minimize the overall impact on campus.
Work planned on Friday, May 31, 2024, to the Savio Condo/Berkeley Research Cluster(link is external) will still occur on that date. Questions can be directed to the high-performance computing team at brc-hpc-help@berkeley.edu(link sends e-mail).
As always, the overall status of campus systems can be viewed on the system status webpage(link is external). We will notify the campus once a new date has been set to shut down the Data Center and complete this important work.
Thank you for your partnership and patience.
Regards,
Gabriel Gonzalez, Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for IT and Chief Information Officer
Dave Browne, Executive Director of Campus IT Infrastructure
