Student Access to Adobe Software for Spring 2022

As was announced in August, student access to software previously covered by the Student Technology Fee (STF) will be funded for the 2021-22 academic year. To help ensure access for all students and to manage costs incurred by campus, students will need to request an Adobe Creative Cloud license for Spring 2022. How students access licenses for other software is not changing. 

You may recall hearing the news that the STF was not renewed in April 2021. Although more than 80% of students voted in favor of passing the fee renewal, it did not pass in the ASUC Election due to lower-than-required voter turnout. The Chancellor committed emergency funding for Adobe and Microsoft while remaining STF carry-forward funds have been committed to cover student licensing for MatLab and LinkedIn Learning for this academic year only

Conversations with student leadership are ongoing to discuss strategies for long-term sustainable funding for software and other technology costs that have been covered by the STF during its seven-year history.

How do I get/renew an Adobe license?

Starting Dec. 21, 2021, the license request form will be available on the Adobe Software page. All students who need to use Adobe software as part of their academic or co-curricular work, or employment at UC Berkeley must request a license. Spring semester Adobe licenses will be valid from Jan. 5 to Aug. 17, 2022. 

Adobe licensing plans for the 2022-2023 academic year will be announced prior to the start of the semester in August 2022.

What if I already have an Adobe license?

On Jan. 10, 2022, all pre-existing student Adobe licenses, including those requested in the Fall, will be deactivated and Spring 2021 licenses will start being activated. To avoid disruption in using Adobe Creative Cloud products, students mayrequest an Adobe license starting on Dec. 21. Students may temporarily lose access to their Creative Cloud assets during the transition period between the deactivation of their old license and their request for a new license being activated. Once the new license is activated, they will regain access to their assets in Creative Cloud.
