Upcoming Changes to bCOP Management

May 24, 2022

Dear Berkeley IT colleagues,

On June 21st, 2022, the bConnected on-premises SMTP service (bCOP) will be transitioning from contracted management to management by UC Berkeley. We do not anticipate any interruption of service, but want to make you aware of the change. The IP address will be changing, but the DNS will remain the same. Please make sure your customers are connecting to bCOP via DNS rather than IP address.

As a reminder, the use of bCOP must meet one of the following minimum requirements:

  • Account sends more than 2,000 individual messages per day (exceeding Google's current sending limits);

  • Need the ability to send from multiple user addresses;

  • Use private IP (RFC-1918) network connection

If you or your customers do not require any of the above functions, we encourage you to use other methods to send email such as Google Groups/lists or standard email.

You can find more information about bCOP in the bCOP SLA. If you determine that you or your customers no longer need to use bCOP, please let us know by replying to this email so that we can remove your account.

If you have any questions about this change of bCOP management, please contact us
