Each fall we put out a call to our ITLP alumni, ITLG members, and ITC members to nominate the next set of leaders that UC Berkeley will invest in - those people who will help us lead our IT strategic efforts forward over the coming years. Here is a summary of the nomination and selection process.
When we consider nominations for ITLP, we are looking for members of the One IT community across campus who would benefit most from participation in the program. We look for the technology leaders of today and for the future we need to create the vision and motivate people to move UC Berkeley to the next level. The successful candidate should:
- Demonstrate significant leadership potential and a desire to grow their skills;
- Currently serve in a supervisor/manager role, preferably with several years of managerial experience;
- Be a mid-career professional on the leadership path;
- Have 3+ years of service at UC Berkeley.
In the selection process, our goal is to create a diverse cohort comprised of a mix of participants from IT units across the campus. Once nominations have been submitted, all nominees are asked to fill out a short application. These applications, along with the original nominations, are used by a selection committee made up of ITLP alumni to recommend six people to move forward to CIO Larry Conrad for final decision. Typically, nominees are selected and notified by the end of November, for a program start date of January or February in the following year.
The nominees who are selected must be able to commit to spending four weeks over the course of a year participating in the program's four 3-day workshops. In addition, there are project and reading requirements to fulfill between the workshop sessions. One workshop is held at UC Berkeley and the rest require travel to other institutions. The CIO covers the cost of the program itself, and the participants’ units are expected to cover the cost of their travel.
