Working together to ensure an inclusive and positive environment.
Outlined in our One IT Strategic Plan, Goal 3 focuses on creating a diverse and inclusive community of IT professionals who are trusted and strategic partners with the campus, alumni, and the public. In July 2018, we held a series of workshops with campus IT professionals to explore the issues of diversity, inclusion, and equity within the campus IT community. Work to analyze and theme the feedback gathered at these workshops was done by an amazing Superhero team, who subsequently identified a set of projects to address a variety of issue. This led to the creation of the Action Team who have been meeting regularly ever since, making good progress on DEIB issues and goals including strengthening our hiring practices to focus on DEIB best practices.
In June 2019, the theme of our annual IT Summit was Diversity and Inclusion for One IT. All programming was organized around various DEIB themes and presenters throughout the day addressed topics of importance to the greater One IT community. Our ability to make more progress on this goal has depended on resources to do this work, primarily dedicated staff who can lead these efforts.
As we completed the Organizational Design Project (ODP) in December 2021, we were happy to announce the creation of a new People, Performance and Culture unit that reports directly to the CIO with and a full-time Culture Officer role who will be dedicated to DEIB work. The completion of ODP also brought realignments to job titles to bring equity and consistency across our organization. We look forward to welcoming Michelle Marquez as our new Director of People, Performance, and Culture starting in January 2022.
