Request a new Adobe Creative Cloud license starting Aug. 1

August 1, 2022

To staff and faculty who use Adobe Acrobat or other Adobe software

In order to best support instruction and the daily work of our campus community, Berkeley IT is assessing Adobe software usage. Starting today, Aug. 1, 2022, anyone who uses Adobe software will need to request a new license, valid for one year. On Aug. 14, 2022, access will end for all previous licenses.

If you use Adobe Acrobat DC or any of the other Creative Cloud programs for your work (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.), you must request your new license starting Aug. 1 to avoid a disruption in accessing this suite of tools.

Why is this happening?

This change to licensing for Adobe software was made at the request of the Productivity & Collaboration Tools Governance Committee. This committee is charged with providing strategic oversight of the Productivity Suite of tools, of which Adobe is one; they requested that the service team use FY23 to collect data on usage of the Adobe Creative Cloud product. This change to the way we distribute licenses will give us insight into campus usage to understand the demand and inform future investment.

What do I need to do?

  • Aug. 1 - Faculty, staff, and students can begin requesting an Adobe license for use this academic year by filling out the license request form on the Adobe Software webpagePlease only request a license if you need the software for the kind of work you do since we are trying to gauge the actual demand for users on campus.

  • Aug. 14 - All licenses requested by this date will be granted and activated. If you have not requested a new Adobe license by this date, your access to previously installed Adobe products will no longer work and you will need to fill out the request form on the Adobe Software webpage. Licenses requested from Aug. 14 onward may take 2-4 hours before they are activated and you can proceed with using Adobe products.

Important Considerations

  • Avoid disruptions in using Adobe products: To avoid disruptions, campus customers actively using Adobe Creative Cloud products are encouraged to request their license starting Aug. 1 and before Aug. 14 when their existing license access period will end.

  • Regain access to Creative Cloud assets: If your Adobe license access ends on Aug. 14 you will temporarily lose access to any content stored in Creative Cloud. You must request a license and wait 2-4 hours for it to be activated before regaining access to your assets.

  • Duration of license: As long as someone maintains an active student or employee affiliation, they will only have to request a license once during the academic year.
