Planned Data Center Outage: Sunday, March 30

March 10, 2025

To our campus community,

From 2 a.m. through 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, our campus Data Center will be offline for critical mechanical and electrical system upgrades. This work is required to enable the Data Center to run on generator power during campus outages, sustaining campus operations, teaching and research. Berkeley IT is working with Facilities Services to make mechanical and electrical system upgrades that will reduce the impact of unplanned campus power outages in the future. Visit our FAQs page to learn more about this project

Since the Data Center houses many of our mission-critical servers on campus, powering down the data center will impact access to many systems including CalTime, Cal Central, Student Information Systems / Berkeley Campus Solutions (SIS/BCS), Cal Answers, Berkeley Financial System (BFS), BearBuy, and Savio Condo/Berkeley Research Cluster, to name a few. We understand this may disrupt your ability to work or access your information and we apologize for the inconvenience. For seamless internet service, please ensure you are using eduroam, not Wi-Fi for visitors (Berkeley-Visitor).

Systems Impacted

The following systems will not be available during the Data Center shutdown period. The systems listed below will be down from 2 a.m. through 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 30 (times are estimated and subject to change). View the list of systems that will not be impacted during the shutdown.

Updates will be posted on the system status page as work progresses and systems come back online. Service providers will also communicate status updates related to their services as they are shut down before the power work begins, and as they are restored afterward.
