Faculty and staff,

I am excited to share the news that we have officially launched our new organization: Berkeley Information Technology! We have spent the last 14 months realigning our organization (previously known as Information Services & Technology, or IST) to ensure our organization is positioned and prepared to strategically meet the needs of our institution going forward. We embarked on this effort with the following objective guiding our work:

To build an agile central IT organization that serves as a strategic partner with the UC Berkeley community to efficiently deliver campus IT services. Create a structure and culture that is inclusive, actively embraces diversity and equity, where IT professionals can do their best work

Same services, new name

Our departmental name has changed, but the services we provide remain the same. Here is a reminder of resources you have available to meet your technology needs:

FY21 IT Accomplishments

IT continued to be a strategic enabler last year as we collectively supported the work, teaching, and learning through the pandemic. Partnering with other IT units across campus, our goals focused on COVID response and recovery priorities: to support remote instruction, return to research, and enable remote work. Even while tackling return to campus priorities we were able to make good progress on additional IT priorities. View highlights of our accomplishments

FY22 IT Priorities

To meet the ever-evolving needs of our campus, there is always more to be done and continuous improvements to make. One example is our Network User Experience Improvements program, a series of projects to upgrade and improve Wi-Fi, expand campus firewall and increase VPN capacity, improve connectivity for international students, and more. Learn about campus-wide IT priorities we have underway in our strategic plan.

Regards,

Jenn Stringer, Associate Vice Chancellor for IT and Chief Information Officer
