CalNet 2-Step Verification

CalNet 2-Step verification provides an important, additional layer of protection against the theft of your CalNet credentials. You have likely experienced 2-Step verification with accounts such as online banking. When logging in, after you enter your CalNet ID and password, you will be prompted for a second step using a verification device that you set up. The second step could just be a tap on your phone!

CalNet Active Directory (AD)

Joining the Campus’ Windows Active Directory Infrastructure gives a group the benefits of integration with many UC Berkeley systems while allowing it to retain considerable autonomy in its local domain.

IST Data & Platform Services manages the UC Berkeley Active Directory to address issues such as:

  • Single sign-on (ADFS);
  • Location-independent access to resources; and
  • Microsoft Windows platform manageability and security.

CalNet ID

Your CalNet ID is your username used with your CalNet passphrase, to log into many web-based campus services. For most users your CalNet ID matches the handle of your campus email address. Protect your passphrase as carefully as you would your other personal identification numbers, such as Social Security or credit card numbers, since your CalNet credentials are often used to access confidential information.
