CalNet 2-Step Verification

We are excited to announce the implementation of CalNet 2-Step verification, now available to faculty and staff (student enrollment coming in fall 2018). CalNet 2-Step verification provides an important, additional layer of protection against the theft of your CalNet credentials. This extra layer is like adding an alarm system to protect your home beyond just your front door key. You have likely experienced 2-Step verification with your other accounts like online banking or your personal Google login experience.

CalNet ID

Your CalNet ID is your username for many web-based campus services. For new users, it is also the handle of your campus email address. Protect your passphrase as carefully as you would your other personal identification numbers, such as Social Security or credit card numbers, since your CalNet credentials are often used to access confidential information. If you need help with your CalNet ID and passphrase, start by reviewing Manage My Account.

Remote Access VPN

The Remote Access VPN (Virtual Private Network) service allows CalNet ID–authenticated users to securely access the UC Berkeley network from outside of campus, as if they were on campus, and encrypts the information sent to the network. The VPN service allows authorized users a way to connect into the campus network in order to access resources generally unavailable to users not on the campus network.
