Better security - This new method allows you to use your preferred browser, so outdated browsers like Internet Explorer (which is no longer supported and receiving security patches) won’t be used.
Remembers your CalNet cookie - This new method lets your system remember your login session and helps smooth the transition to CalNet Authenticate.

That is why we are introducing Risk-Based Authentication for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) — also known as your CalNet verification or 2-Step — on March 18, 2025. You must take action if you use SMS text messages or a simple hardware token for CalNet MFA verification.
Adam Yala made an excited call from Sweden to his PhD advisor at MIT when he first saw the study results in September 2019. Their research group’s artificial intelligence model for detecting patients at risk of breast cancer from mammogram images – developed and tested in Boston – had worked consistently on Swedish patient data, without any adjustments.

I volunteered at the second annual Student Tech Experience Event for Fall 2024, hosted by Campus IT Experience (CITE) on Sept. 25, 2024. The aim? To raise awareness of technology offerings to students, and to gather students’ feedback about their technology needs.
On October 28, 2024, the University of California honored six individuals and eleven teams from various UC entities with the 2024 UC Tech Awards at the UC Tech Conference, hosted by UC Davis and UC Davis Health.

I’m delighted to share that our Berkeley IT Short-Term Strategy is now live on our technology website! The following five priorities are already being used to help guide planning and proposals to governance this fall for the new current year and fiscal 2026 initiatives:
Brian Xi, B.A. ‘24, became interested in public interest technology during his first data science course. His professor used the 1854 cholera outbreak in London to teach about causation, showing how a physician proved water supply differences explained varying death rates. That discovery saved lives.
Growing up as the only hearing child in an all-Deaf family — a circumstance he says is rarer than being struck by lightning twice — Thibault Duchemin was always translating. From phone calls to doctor’s appointments, he often served as the de facto bridge between his parents and sister and the hearing world. That’s something he says a lot of CODAs (children of deaf adults) end up doing, since live interpreters can be prohibitively expensive.
This fake email was sent to a number of teaching faculty members, alerting them falsely that they were exposed to a student in class with Covid.
This targeted phishing scam pretending to be a UC WarnMe Health alert.
This targeted phishing scam uses urgency and fear to cause the recipients to act, the text is also very well done and the non-UCB link is obscured.
UC Berkeley Help Desks will NEVER initiate contact directly via text to personal cell phone numbers.
