For the first time, the world’s largest Agricultural Robotics (Ag Robotics) conference, The World Agricultural Robotics Conference (aka “FIRA,” as it is called in Europe) will take place in Fresno, CA, Oct 18-20 under the name The California Agricultural & Robotics Technology Forum. Those in technology will have the opportunity to learn more about how robotics is revolutionizing the Agricultural Sector.

A new UC Berkeley institute will bring together top machine learning and chemistry researchers to make this vision a reality, and a Bay Area foundation is providing a substantial gift to launch and enable this work at UC Berkeley over the next five years.

Despite our best efforts to stabilize the network for a smooth start of the semester, our monitoring of campus Wi-Fi has shown challenges in connecting during the peak times between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

When classes returned to in-person instruction in the fall of 2021, there were a multitude of challenges faced by campus staff who support students, instructors, and the overall classroom experience. The number of students who needed captioning services to participate in class had grown exponentially while the resources to expand these services remained uncertain. These are the pivotal moments when collaboration between teams and innovative ideas can lead to positive solutions for everyone involved.

As we begin the academic year, we want to provide you with an update on our network and Wi-Fi. We are thrilled that, as of July 1, we are now fully funded to continue this critical work. However, we are playing catch-up after years of underfunding. While the work to fully optimize our network will take time, we want to make the return to campus as smooth as possible. To help in this effort, we have increased our support for the fall.

To staff and faculty who use Adobe Acrobat or other Adobe software

In order to best support instruction and the daily work of our campus community, Berkeley IT is assessing Adobe software usage. Starting today, Aug. 1, 2022, anyone who uses Adobe software will need to request a new license, valid for one year. On Aug. 14, 2022, access will end for all previous licenses.
