Resilient, rising, and reinspired was the theme for this year’s UC Tech conference which brought over 1,000 technologists from across the UC system together both on the Berkeley campus and virtually. I think the theme also describes how the last year has played out and how we have approached our campus IT priorities: remaining resilient and making good progress on key initiatives while rising to meet some unexpected challenges.

As we kick off another academic year, we have some updates to share toward continuous improvement in supporting our campus community. We are excited to be rolling out new forms that will expedite campus customer requests for several computer and printer-related items. A new service is also now available for decommissioning devices.
This past July, UC Berkeley hosted the annual UC Tech Conference. IT professionals from across the UC system came together to connect and share new ideas on collaborating and growing IT support services within the UC system. This year, 27 UC Berkeley students (myself included) had the valuable opportunity to participate in the conference.

UC Berkeley experts taught ChatGPT how to quickly create datasets on difficult-to-aggregate research about certain materials that can be used to fight climate change, according to a new paper published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society.
As an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley who has worked as an IT technician for over two years, I can say with confidence that this experience has been one of the most rewarding of my college career. In 2018, the Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity (CLTC) at the UC Berkeley School of Information launched Citizen Clinic, a first-of-its-kind program that trains students to provide pro bono digital security assistance to public interest organizations with limited resources.
